A skilled warrior with many moves on the mat, Reilly was 40-9-2 in duals (.804) and was a two-time All-American, placing 8th and 7th in his first two years on campus. He also placed 1st in the EIWA as a freshman, followed by finishes of 4th, 2nd and 1st in the league.
He remains one of only six LU grapplers who've ever placed nationally in their freshman year (only three of whom did so in their first year in college). He accomplished all this despite the distinction as probably having had more knee surgeries than any other Lehigh wrestler.
Among his 74 career victories were 47 by bonus points. His best year for bonus was in 1981 (18); best season record: 21-5-1 as senior, which included his best dual year (11-1-1).
